Lions of Michigan Service Foundation Trustee Nancy Dings is available to put on LMSF programs for your club. Email her at bcdings@juno.com. Covert Township Lions Club members Shirley Ashley and Ray Llorens received Lions Clubs International Foundation's (LCIF) highest honor, the Melvin Jones Fellowship. The presentation was made by 11-B2 District Governor Margaret Anderson at the District's Fall Conference in New Buffalo on Saturday, September 22. The fellowship was created in 1973, and takes its name from the founder of Lions Clubs International (LCI) Melvin Jones. Melvin Jones Fellowship, is an honor - not an award. The fellowship was established as LCIF's highest form of recognition to acknowledge an individual's dedication to humanitarian service. When any individual, Lions club, or district donates $1000.00 to LCIF for a Melvin Jones Fellowship, an inscribed plaque and lapel pin are presented to the specified individual. Thousands of lives have been dramatically touched by the good works good works that are funded with fellowship donations. The personal nature of the fellowship restricts it to individuals only. The honor cannot be given to any group or organization. The awards committee need to start selecting the Lion of the Year so the plaque can be ordered. If we have a Melvin Jones Fellowship Honoree, (With the $1000.00 from the Swiss Steak Dinner) that Lion has to be chosen soon if the MJF is to be presented at the March 11-B2 Convention. Dues has to be paid before December 31 because we will not meet the first two months of the year and the treasurer has to have members pay at least one half of the annual dues. A letter should go out to all members so our club will not be in arrears. The nomination committee should have a slate of officers ready to present to the district and International by the first meeting in March. It has to published three times. This too should be done before our last meeting in December. I will have a flyer ready for the Holiday Arts and Crafts Show. Please have a sign up sheet for workers at the next meeting. I will try to have any 11-B2 Convention information available before the last meeting of the year. Covert Lions are supplying eye exams, glasses,Christmas Baskets and toys to the covert community. Covert Lions are famous for their two pancake breakfasts and the annual steak fry fundraisers. Fundraiser for SightFirst II - Swiss Steak Dinner. The Club raised $1000.00 for the LCIF Project.
